BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) is the film behind most parcel tape. The film itself is only half the story — the adhesive on it determines how it actually performs.
BOPP is a stretched polypropylene film — strong for its thickness, resistant to tearing along most directions, and able to take print cleanly. It can be left clear, tinted (as with kraft-look tan), or printed directly. It's the standard base for parcel-sealing tape because it holds up in transit without adding much weight or bulk.
The film seals the box; the adhesive decides whether that seal holds. Three types are common:
Balanced, general-purpose bond with good resistance to UV and ageing. Reliable in ambient indoor conditions, but loses tack faster in the cold. A solid default for standard retail and e-commerce sealing.
Strong initial tack, bonds fast — including on recycled or lower-quality cardboard. Holds up better than acrylic in cold or damp conditions, though it's less UV-stable over long storage.
The strongest overall bond and the best cold-temperature performance. Common for heavier or reinforced packaging where bond strength matters most.
